Don’t let his unimpressive head coaching record fool you; Raheem Morris was more than ready to become an NFL head coach again.
The Atlanta Falcons agreed and chose him over Bill Belichick to lead their project in the future, and plenty of figures around the league seem to be quite happy about that.
Back in 2022, Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin claimed that Morris was the best coach in the league who was not in a head coaching position.
San Francisco 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan seems to agree (Via ProFootballTalk).
“It’s way past due,” Shanahan said. “Raheem’s one of the best coaches I’ve been with.”

Talking about Morris’ new job, Shanahan claimed that it was way past due and it was about time Morris got another chance to lead a team.
Morris replaced Jon Gruden after his dismissal from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, taking over as interim coach before getting the job on a full-time basis for the next three seasons.
He’s gotten plenty of experience on both sides of the field ever since, excelling as the Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator before getting this opportunity.
He’s now back in the NFC South Division.
The Falcons want to build a sustainable project for the future, which is perhaps also why Belichick didn’t get the nod, as he was likely to coach for just a couple of years before retirement.
And while they still need to figure out their quarterback situation, they do have the personnel to compete at a high level in that division, and the fans should be very excited about this new era.
