The Houston Astros and Kyle Tucker agreed to a $12 million salary for 2024, thus avoiding arbitration.
The two parties had the unpleasant experience of an actual arbitration hearing in 2023, with the Astros winning over the player.
This time, they got it out of the way and there won’t be a third party deciding on the player’s salary.
He is still without a long-term contract, though.
Tucker, one of the American League’s star outfielders, has two remaining seasons of team control for the Astros.
It means that, if he is not extended, he will hit the free agent market after the 2025 campaign.
What did he say about potential discussions for a long-term deal?
Well, not much, actually.
“Kyle Tucker said he and the Astros did not have any long-term extension discussion during the arbitration salary exchange deadline,” Astros insider Chandler Rome tweeted.

That’s probably not good for his prospects of staying beyond 2025.
The Astros might have a problem: they have too many guys hitting the market soon.
Jose Altuve will be a free agent after 2024, as will Alex Bregman, Kendall Graveman, and possibly Ryan Pressly.
Jose Abreu, Framber Valdez, Jose Urquidy,a and Tucker will be free to sign with any team after 2025.
There needs to be a huge investment to keep their core together, but they can’t sign them all.
We will see, in due time, which are the ones who end up staying and who will leave for greener pastures.
Tucker is well worth a huge contract, with his career .272/.345/.507 line and 30-30 yearly potential.
