After more than a decade of being one of the best centers in the game, Jason Kelce of the Philadelphia Eagles decided to call it a career on Monday, as he held a press conference to announce his intention to retire.
Even though Kelce had flirted with the idea of walking away from the game for the last few years, he always seemed to find a reason to return to the Eagles, with the Philadelphia franchise embracing him with open arms on an annual basis.
However, this year was different, with Kelce and his Eagles team coming off an ugly season in which the team collapsed in epic fashion during the 2023 NFL regular season and was blown out by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the NFL playoffs.
With Kelce now heading into retirement, he will almost certainly get a call in the near future to be a Hall of Famer, but former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy doesn’t believe that’s enough.
McCoy believes that his former teammate deserves to have a statue outside of Lincoln Financial Field.
“Kelce should be the type of player where they need a statue outside of the stadium because he stands for what the Philadelphia Eagles is all about,” McCoy said. … I’ve never seen a center as good as him since I left Philadelphia.”

Usually, statues in any professional sport in this country are reserved for superstars who led the team to one or more championships, but McCoy has a point when it comes to Kelce.
It’ll be interesting to see if McCoy makes some noise here and gets the Eagles thinking about honoring Kelce.
