The Detroit Lions won’t leave anything to chance.
They know the San Francisco 49ers will be a tough team to beat, which is why they’re bringing in some reinforcements.
According to a report by Tom Pelissero, Dan Campbell’s team has just signed veteran tight end Zach Ertz.
Pelissero adds that the three-time Pro Bowler will start off on the practice squad, but they’re hoping that he can be out there for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game in the Bay area.

Notably, Ertz is quite familiar with the Niners, given his past with divisional rivals, the Arizona Cardinals.
The former Philadelphia Eagles star had been a free agent for a little over a month.
He struggled with injuries in Arizona and asked to part ways with the team.
And just when it seemed like he would have to wait until the offseason to pad up again, he landed this deal.
The Lions have already struck gold at the TE position with rookie Sam LaPorta, who looks like a superstar in the making.
Even if Ertz cannot suit up or make much of an impact, having a veteran like him coaching him and mentoring him could do wonders for this team going forward.
It wasn’t that long that Ertz was one of the best pass-catching tight ends in the game.
The Lions have all hands on deck and whoever can help them reach the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history will be more than welcome in Motor City.
