It’s the dawn of a new era for the Seattle Seahawks.
For the first time in years, Pete Carroll won’t be calling the shots, and former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald will get a chance to carry the torch in Seattle.
With that in mind, former NFL player Louis Riddick thinks they should also go after a new quarterback.
Riddick took to Twitter to urge them to trade for Justin Fields and allow him to compete for a spot on the team, as they only have one quarterback under contract right now.
Go and get Justin Fields #Seahawks ….
I have been saying it all day.
You have one QB on the roster.
Let him compete.

On one hand, that does make sense.
Geno Smith had a breakout year two seasons ago and was still somewhat good last season, but he’s not exactly young, and he’s closer to his ceiling.
Fields is younger, and while he has shown some limitations as a passer, and there could be some durability concerns as well, he does have a higher upside and shouldn’t be that costly to trade for.
On the other hand, even if the Seahawks don’t have to give up much to get Fields to Lumen Field, they might be forced to make a big financial decision about him sooner than they would like, as it won’t be long before he’s eligible for a very lucrative contract extension.
It’s crazy to think that no one is actually willing to give Fields a shot as a starter, and he should at least get an opportunity to compete and prove he belongs in this league.
