The Pittsburgh Steelers have two potential starting quarterbacks right now.
Russell Wilson is reportedly in the lead to be Arthur Smith’s guy to start the season, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to finish the year in the same position.
There has been a lot of talk about whether Justin Fields will be on the gridiron at some point, and most analysts have agreed that it’s a real possibility.
Notably, that includes Louis Riddick.
Talking on ESPN, he made a case for Fields actually being a better option than Russell Wilson for the Steelers right now (via NFL on ESPN).

He believes that Fields is tailor-made for Arthur Smith’s offense, predicting he’s going to take his game to a whole new level in Pittsburgh.
Riddick claims that having Fields out there is going to be better for the Steelers in the sense that Fields is the best runner they have, and that favors Smith’s offense.
He remembered when Smith had Ryan Tannehill as a top-five passer in the National Football League after being a subpar quarterback and Marcus Mariota’s backup, citing that the Steelers have similar personnel and approach in terms of running the football.
Wilson might give them a better chance to win now, but given Fields’ age and upside, it actually makes more sense for the organization to give him a chance and let him show what he’s got.
Also, with their defense and coaching, they only need someone who can give them mistake-free football at QB; they don’t even need an MVP-caliber season from their quarterback.
