The Pittsburgh Steelers are in desperate need of an upgrade at the quarterback position.
The fact that Mike Tomlin didn’t turn back to Kenny Pickett with the season on the line despite being back to full strength spoke volumes of his confidence — or lack thereof — in his QB1.
Mason Rudolph is about to become a free agent, and they’ve already moved on from Mitch Trubisky.
As of now, they’re the odds-on favorite to acquire Justin Fields in a trade, and he’d be a significant improvement at the position.
With that in mind, former NFL player Louis Riddick salivated at the thought of having him playing under Arthur Smith.
Talking on ESPN’s Get Up, he reminded everyone just how much better Ryan Tannehill got working in Smith’s offense and how much of a threat he was in the red zone.
“It is perfect. Absolutely perfect. With George Pickens, Diontae Johnson, and Pat Freiermuth,” Riddick said.

Riddick believes that as much as he loves Kenny Pickett, the Steelers’ offense and pieces are tailor-made to play with Fields.
He thinks the team could be deadly in play-action and that the running game would be a perfect complement for what Fields needs to be at his best offensively.
However, he doesn’t think he’ll be under center all the time, adding that they would also use him in shotgun formation and allow him to thrive as a passer, especially in the final stretch of the field.
The Chicago Bears still need to make a decision about Fields, and the Steelers might not be alone in their pursuit of him, but this pairing makes too much sense.
