Paul Skenes has officially arrived and has taken the baseball world by storm in what has been the most-hyped starting pitching debut since Stephen Strasburg, and fans are starting to learn more and more about the No. 1 pick and future Pittsburgh Pirates phenom.
After just two starts and a few media appearances, it is clear that Skenes is a character and has an aura about him, and one former LSU teammate recently shared a story about what it’s like to stand in the box against Skenes.
Former LSU teammate and third baseman Tommy White shared that it’s “not fun” to face Skenes and told a story about how the pitcher once struck him out on a slider in the opposite batter’s box and then proceeded to send him the video of the strikeout the next morning.

White also shared how Skenes once made him stand in the box for a 50-foot bullpen and said “I don’t know why he would do that” before sharing his gratitude that the mound isn’t actually 50 feet away.
Skenes showed what made him so dominant in college in his second start yesterday against the Chicago Cubs when he earned his first win after throwing six hitless innings with just one walk and 11 strikeouts.
It can’t be fun facing Skenes with his consistent 100-mph+ fastball and devastating slider, and MLB hitters are quickly finding this out and understanding what Tommy White was talking about.
Pirates fans have themselves a gem, and it has been a pleasure to watch so far.
