The NFC championship game between the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions pits two teams with completely different histories in conference title matches.
The 49ers are in their third consecutive NFC title game and fourth since 2019, while the Lions are in their second in franchise history and first since 1991.
As such, neutral fans in the United States have taken a clear stance on which team they want to see playing in the Super Bowl: Every state apart from California is rooting for the Lions to win.

Everyone loves an underdog story, and the Lions are one of the coolest underdog stories in recent sports history.
Detroit traded away it’s franchise quarterback (Matthew Stafford) for a bevy of draft picks and a quarterback (Jared Goff) another team didn’t want and turned him and those picks into a championship-caliber roster in just three years.
With Goff under center, the Lions drafted quality skill position players like wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, running back Jahmyr Gibbs, and tight end Sam LaPorta to build a top-five offense and win the NFC South in Dan Campbell’s third year at the helm
And now, Detroit is one win away from the franchise’s first-ever Super Bowl appearance.
But they’ll face a daunting opponent in the 49ers, who rolled to the No. 1 seed in the NFC behind a top-five offense and defense.
So while the Lions will be underdogs once more, they’ll have the majority of the country on their side as they take on San Francisco and try to prevent the 49ers from making the Super Bowl once more.
