The Kansas City Chiefs wasted a huge opportunity to make a statement on Monday night.
Or should we say they dropped it?
With around two minutes left to play, Patrick Mahomes hit Marquez Valdes-Scantling with a 45-yard pass that would’ve been the go-ahead touchdown.
Valdes-Scantling, instead, saw the football ricochet off his fingers, tripped short of the goal line, and fumbled the ball and his team’s chances of winning the game.
Needless to say, the fans were ruthless to him and let him have it on social media, which is why he took to Twitter to apologize and vow to be better.
Truth be told, it’s not like this was much of a surprise.
Valdes-Scantling has always had major issues with drops, being a boom-or-bust wide receiver who could either explode for a huge gain or drop an easy pass despite not being closely guarded.
I’m grateful, I’ll be better. And I appreciate the criticism and the support. God put this on me because he knew I could handle it. Gratitude for everything that comes with it.

The Chiefs have struggled with these kinds of issues all year long, and they failed to address it before the trade deadline.
The reality is that Patrick Mahomes doesn’t have any other consistent pass-catcher besides Travis Kelce, and that’s a major concern ahead of the postseason.
Valdes-Scantling and the rest of the receiving corps desperately need to be better, as they’re currently the only thing holding this team back.
The reigning Super Bowl champions must be better if they want to repeat.
