A former longtime NFL head coach has returned to the league after time away.
That former head coach is Marvin Lewis.
After coaching the Cincinnati Bengals from 2003-2018, he was fired and moved to the college ranks.
He spent five years at Arizona State as an assistant and advisor.
After those five years were up, Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce, who crossed paths with Lewis at Arizona State, brought him to Las Vegas earlier this offseason.
He will be the team’s assistant head coach.
Lewis recently spoke with the Las Vegas media about his decision to take the role.
“I think just the opportunity to really assist AP…I just have been really impressed all the time with him,” Lewis said.

Hiring Lewis was a wise call by Pierce, who is entering his first year as head coach of the Raiders without the interim tag.
Again, Lewis coached the Bengals for 16 years.
That was one of the most interesting coaching tenures to witness in recent history.
In his 16 seasons, the Bengals made the playoffs seven times, won the AFC North four times, but never won a playoff game.
He has plenty of coaching experience and will be able to be a guide for Pierce.
He is a brilliant defensive mind, which is where the Raiders could certainly use him.
Who knows if this could lead to him getting another head-coaching gig in the future, but Raiders fans should be excited about the prospect of his experience being in the building to help out Pierce.
