The Chicago Bears finally caught a break with their first win of the 2023 NFL season.
They put an end to a franchise-worst 14-game losing streak with that big 40-20 win over the Washington Commanders.
And now that the team heads to a bit of a break before their next game, it’s the right time for HC Matt Eberflus to find a suitable replacement for former Defensive Coordinator Alan Williams.
In his latest media availability, Eberflus was asked about potentially looking at some outside help for the vacant DC spot, and while he was somewhat non-committal, he didn’t shut the door on that possibility.
He was also asked if he would continue to call defensive plays, adding that it was the plan, but it will also depend on who they bring in — assuming they do bring someone.
The Bears have been without a DC since Alan Williams surprisingly missed their Week 2 matchup and resigned shortly after.
Eberflus — a defensive-minded coach — has been in charge of calling the plays on defense ever since, but as you may have noticed by now, he hasn’t found that much success on that side of the field.
Among the potential candidates to fill in for Williams could be Rod Marinelli, who has long ties with both Eberflus and the Bears, and is currently unemployed after a brief tenure with the Las Vegas Raiders.
It’s been a wild season for the Bears, and there are still plenty of things to work on, but at least they managed to finally get a much-needed win.
