The NFL Draft is just around the corner, which means it’s obviously “hot take” season.
Scouts and analysts will scrutinize every single aspect of the top prospects, and that will lead to some controversies and back and forth.
Notably, analyst Merril Hoge just got the ball rolling with his opinion on Drake Maye (via Dov Kleiman).
Apparently, he’s not ready to jump on board with all the frenzy around the UNC star, stating that he’s “extremely inconsistent” and that the Washington Commanders should take Jayden Daniels instead.
Wild: #NFL Analyst Merril Hoge says he wouldn’t draft Drake Maye in the first round:

The LSU prospect is also expected to be a star at the next level, so it’s not like they would be settling for less.
As for Maye, Hoge thinks he’s too stiff and not athletic enough, also predicting he would throw a lot of picks at the next level.
Of course, there’s no such thing as a sure thing when it comes to the NFL Draft or making projections.
More often than not, we’ve seen players outplay their draft stock and prove that they should’ve gone higher.
We can take Tom Brady and Brock Purdy as examples of that trend.
On the flip side, we’ve seen guys like Ryan Leaf, JaMarcus Russell, and Josh Rosen struggle mightily despite being high picks, so there are no guarantees here.
It’s not about where you’re picked as much as it is about what you do every single day with the opportunity you’re given.
Now, it’ll be up to Maye to prove the doubters right or wrong.
