Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, there are three to four quarterbacks that will get some consideration in the first round with some potentially going at the top of the draft.
As of right now, it appears that the Chicago Bears will trade Justin Fields and bring in USC superstar quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick, which has been projected for quite some time now.
After Williams is off the board, it starts to get interesting, with Drake Maye out of North Carolina and LSU’s Jayden Daniels seemingly being neck and neck in most mock drafts, as either player could go No. 2 or end up at No. 3 or lower.
The consensus seems to be that the Washington Commanders will draft Maye at No. 2 overall, and Daniels will go to the New England Patriots at No. 3 overall unless something happens between now and draft day on April 25.
However, with the way these players are analyzed constantly from now until draft day, things can change drastically, with Maye starting to get some criticism from Merril Hoge, via “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.”
“I wouldn’t give him a first-round grade,” Hoge said. “I wouldn’t take him in the first round, and if I did, then I would be very concerned how long I’m going to be around as a coach or a general manager.”

Clearly, Hoge isn’t sold on anything that Maye does well on the football field, and that could be a telling point for the team at the top of the draft that might be considering taking the Tar Heels star.
It’ll be interesting to see where Maye lands and if Hoge is right about the promising young quarterback.
