The New York Mets are coming off a disappointing 2023 season.
They entered with significant expectations of making a deep playoff run.
Instead, they found themselves at home when the postseason began.
The Mets need to make some moves this offseason to improve their roster.
One move could be adding a starting pitcher.
Last offseason, the Mets signed reigning AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander to a two-year deal.
He played only half a season with the Mets before they traded him back to the Houston Astros.
Also, since the Mets were sellers at the trade deadline they sent Max Scherzer to the Texas Rangers.
Now, the Mets need to reboot their pitching staff.
Maybe Boston Red Sox starter Chris Sale is someone they target.
According to Joe DeMayo via SNY Mets, the team could target Sale if Boston decides to move him.
Could Chris Sale be an under-the-radar trade target for the Mets this offseason? Connor & Joe discuss on The Mets Pod:
“The Red Sox are going to be bringing in someone new [in the front office]. Sale has struggled with health, but when he’s on the mound, he can still pitch. He’s… pic.twitter.com/rVyIFvSH4Y

While Sale is often injured, he could be an asset for the Mets.
He threw 102.2 innings last year and had an ERA of 4.30.
But, he did strike out 125 hitters and had 11 strikeouts per nine.
Even when Sale has struggled, he still strikes out a ton of batters.
Sale has not thrown over 158 innings since 2017.
He will be 35 years old at the beginning of next year which has to be some concern.
For a team looking for a spark, Sale could bring that to the Mets pitching staff.
But, to think he could turn back the clock and stay healthy for a full season seems foolish.
