The New York Mets could become contenders in 2024 depending on a series of circumstances.
In order for that to happen, however, they need Kodai Senga to avoid injuries at all costs.
They can’t reach the postseason if he misses significant time.
Unfortunately, the spring didn’t get off to a promising start on that front.
According to Mets insider Anthony DiComo, Senga didn’t participate in Wednesday’s workouts with what was called “arm fatigue.”
“Kodai Senga is experiencing a bit of arm fatigue, so he didn’t work out today. The Mets should have more information in the coming days, per Carlos Mendoza,” he tweeted.

The term “fatigue” is definitely better than “soreness,” “pain,” or “tightness,” but that is only a small consolation prize for fans who are now worried about the team’s best starter.
Besides, fatigue could be the precursor of other injuries in some cases.
The hope, however, is that this is something that doesn’t bring any consequences in terms of missed time.
Senga, who posted a strong 2.98 ERA as a rookie in 2023, mostly avoided injuries last year, making 29 starts.
We will all have to wait until the team offers more clarity about Senga’s status.
It could be nothing when everything is said and done.
The Mets are far more likely to contend in 2025 than 2024, given the current timeline of some of their prospects.
However, they are still competitive and if a few young players can break through, they could surprise a few people and make some noise in the Wild Card race.
They need a healthy Senga for that, so fans are collectively holding their breath until further updates.
