The New York Mets are not a team expected to compete in the National League this year.
But, they are expected to have one impact player back this season.
Last year, in the World Baseball Classic, the Mets lost closer Edwin Diaz to a serious knee injury.
His absence left a glaring hole in the Mets bullpen.
They blew many games in the final innings due to the absence of Diaz.
But, he is expected to be full-go for Opening Day.
According to Anthony DiComo, Diaz took another step in his rehab on Tuesday, throwing to bases and fielding his position.
Edwin Díaz checked another box today, throwing to bases while fielding his position for the first time since surgery. Díaz also threw live BP and expects to get in a Grapefruit League game in about a week. pic.twitter.com/MNVqCZPl9J

Diaz had an incredible 2022 season with the Mets.
In 62.0 innings, he struck out 118 batters and had an ERA of 1.31.
Having him in the backend of the Mets bullpen should help them secure many close games.
Even though closers may only pitch in 60 games a year, they are valuable.
It is hard to get the final three outs of a game.
The only issue for the Mets will be getting a lead going into the final innings.
They have seen their roster get worse over the past few years, especially at starting pitcher.
Coming into the season their ace was supposed to be Kodai Senga, but he will miss the first month of the season with a shoulder injury.
Now, the Mets will have to trot out some inexperienced arms as starters.
The Mets may not be competitive this season, but at least they have Diaz returning.
