The Miami Marlins are in the middle of a playoff push.
As of Wednesday afternoon, they are 81-75 and just half a game behind the Chicago Cubs for the third and final Wild Card spot in the National League.
They were supposed to play on Tuesday against the New York Mets, but the game was postponed due to the fact the field wasn’t in playing condition.
Tropical Storm Ophelia left Citi Field’s diamond soaked after a weekend with heavy rain.
Even though the Mets’ grounds crew members worked hard for three hours to get the field ready, the infield area was just too muddy to play baseball.
Mets owner Steve Cohen went to Twitter to offer to offer his apologies to the Marlins and their fans for the inconvenience.
“Our sincere apologies to the Marlins and their fans for having to postpone last night’s game. We know how important this series is to the Marlins and every effort was made to get the field playable,” he tweeted.

The postponement affects the Marlins’ pitching plans for the week.
Braxton Garrett was supposed to take the mound on Tuesday and then again on Sunday for the season finale.
Now, with him pitching in Wednesday’s doubleheader instead, he won’t be a realistic option for the weekend unless the Marlins are willing to use him on three days rest.
The Mets have been out of the race for a while and were largely unaffected by the schedule change.
Still, it was a classy move by Cohen to acknowledge what his rival has at stake.
