New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte is one of the most dynamic players in baseball… when healthy.
That’s the big issue with Marte: healthy seasons have been few and far between for him in recent years.
He played 120 games in 2021, 118 in 2022, and 86 last year.
Injuries just keep getting in the way.
However, the outfielder is currently healthy and actually playing some in winter ball.
SNY Mets tweeted some of the results of his first eight games in the Dominican Republic.
“Starling Marte has played in 8 LIDOM games, producing strong results. An in-person account from @martinonyc: ‘Marte was all smiles all weekend long, as he ran, hit and manned right field like a healthy player, and met the Mets’ new leadership team. The outfielder, who saw his 2023 season spoiled by a halting recovery from groin surgery, says that he feels good now,’” they tweeted.

Last year, Marte had to remove himself from the Dominican Republic’s World Baseball Classic team because he wasn’t fully healthy, and it showed because he played half the season with the Mets.
However, the landscape is much more optimistic now.
Marte will play a few more games in the Dominican Republic and, if all goes well and there are no setbacks or unexpected injuries, will report to spring training fully healthy.
We all know what a fully healthy Marte can do: he is capable of hitting 15-20 home runs while stealing more than 30 bags, providing a dynamic force near the top of the Mets lineup.
He remains a quality player and an important part of the Mets’ plans for 2024.
