The New York Mets took some time away from their busy offseason to wish a happy birthday to one of their franchise legends.
David Wright joined the Mets as an 18-year-old who was selected in the first round of the 2001 MLB Draft.
After three seasons in the minor leagues, Wright made his debut with the Mets in 2004.
He proceeded to play 14 years for the Mets and played a key role in many memorable moments.
Wright turned 41 years old on Wednesday and the Mets sent out a birthday wish to “The Captain.”

Wright was a seven-time All-Star who won two Gold Glove and two Silver Slugger awards.
It is rare for players to spend their entire career with one team.
But that is why Wright was given the nickname “The Captain.”
He led the Mets for many years and his production spoke for itself.
Wright was named team captain of the Mets in 2013.
He became only the fourth captain in team history.
There have not been many players across baseball that have been given the captain title.
Unfortunately for Wright, he never had the postseason success he hoped for.
Wright played in one World Series in 2015 where the Mets lost to the Kansas City Royals.
Also, for his career in the postseason, he only batted .198.
Injuries derailed Wright’s career over the final few years.
But, that should not take away everything he accomplished in New York.
He will forever be a Mets captain and someone the fanbase will cherish.
