Life after Tom Brady was supposed to be tough for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but instead they defied the odds and ended up winning the NFC South again.
The Buccaneers were one of the surprise teams during the 2023 NFL season and they proved they belonged when they beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round.
Although Tampa Bay lost to the Detroit Lions in the next round, the franchise has to be feeling good about where they stand in the NFC.
Baker Mayfield had a resurgent year in his first season with the team and he was rewarded with a three-year contract this offseason.
The Buccaneers also managed to re-sign Mike Evans to a two-year deal, keeping the pillar of their passing game intact.
Evans seemed to enjoy playing alongside Mayfield and compared him to his former collegiate teammate Johnny Manziel via Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.
“He’s similar to Johnny, his playing style,” Evans said. “I mean, really similar. So it was easy to adjust to play with him. Shorter quarterback. Great athlete. Throws like a baseball player, like really tight spiral. Really good arm. Improvise, can do all those things. Super tough. So I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do this year.”

Evans and Manziel played together at Texas A&M and the wide receiver seems to have used that experience to build chemistry with Mayfield early.
Mayfield and Evans connected for several big-time plays last season, and the two should only look better in 2024 now that they have a year of experience working together.
