There’s only one game left in the 2023 NFL season: Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
So while those two teams prepare for the biggest game of the year, they’ve left a litany of disappointing teams in their wake who’ve lost some heartbreaking matchups.
ESPN’s Mike Greenberg ranked his top-five worst losses from this postseason:
- The Dallas Cowboys’ loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC wild card round.
- The Philadelphia Eagles blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC wild card round.
- The Buffalo Bills’ loss to the Chiefs in the AFC divisional round.
- The Baltimore Ravens’ loss to the Chiefs in the AFC championship.
- The Detroit Lions’ loss to the 49ers in the NFC championship.

The first two games on this list make sense, as the Cowboys were the No. 2 team in the NFC but were embarrassed at home by the Packers in quarterback Jordan Love’s playoff debut and the Eagles looked simply uninterested in playing the Buccaneers in their huge defeat.
The Bills’ loss is a bit odd considering Buffalo had a chance to tie the game with a field goal at the end of regulation but missed.
They played well, but were just beaten by a clearly-better Chiefs team.
The final two were, of course, the conference runner-ups after the Ravens were completely shut down by the Chiefs while the Lions blew a huge halftime lead by not scoring on offense and failing to prevent the 49ers from scoring on defense in the loss.
