The Dallas Cowboys added a veteran pass-catcher and perennial deep-ball threat to their receiving corps in the offseason.
Brandin Cooks was expected to have a significant role in the passing game, but that hasn’t been the case thus far.
He missed one game with an injured knee, and he’s made six starts on seven appearances for the season.
However, he’s averaging a career-worst 2.4 receptions, 23.6 receiving yards, and 9.7 yards per reception per game this season.
He had just one grab on two targets for seven yards during the team’s divisional loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
However, when asked about that, HC Mike McCarthy wasn’t exactly happy to hear about people complaining over Cooks’ lack of usage, stating that he doesn’t play fantasy football and that they had just thrown for 374 yards (via Jon Machota).
McCarthy on Brandin Cooks’ 2 targets: “I’d love to see everybody get the ball. But when you throw for (374) yards and you got to come in here and answer questions about someone not getting the ball, I mean, come on, I don’t think that’s a real evaluation.” https://t.co/BN6NkzMFYq

Cook is on pace for the fewest yards in a single season of his career (377), and we’re talking about a perennial 1,000-yard-per-season kind of guy, so it’s normal to wonder what’s going on with him.
Nonetheless, Dak Prescott is actually playing his best football of the season right now.
He’s averaging 317 passing yards per game, all while throwing for eight touchdowns with just one pick over his past three games.
So, if the team thrives offensively, then it shouldn’t matter who’s getting the football.
He just needs to stay ready and wait for the moment the team needs to call his number, as they cannot afford egos to get in the way right now.
