It’s very possible that Sunday’s Week 9 matchup between the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs could be a preview of this season’s AFC Championship Game.
In front of an international audience in Frankfurt, Germany, the Dolphins will attempt to send a message to the Chiefs that they are now the team to beat in the AFC this season.
A win over Kansas City this weekend could be huge for Miami, but Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is viewing this matchup as just another game that his team needs to win (via Marcel Louis-Jacques on Twitter).
“[If we win], that means we’re 7-2. Does 7 wins get you into the playoffs? Probably not.”
More McDaniel, on what it means if the Dolphins beat the Chiefs:

Technically, Sunday’s contest is supposed to be a home game for the Chiefs.
But instead of having to play in front of a deafening crowd in GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, the crowd will likely be more neutral since the matchup is being held in Germany.
Not having to play in Kansas City will certainly give the Dolphins a much better shot at leaving the field on Sunday with a big win over the Chiefs.
After beginning the 2023 season with a 3-0 record, Miami is just 3-2 in their last five games, so a victory over the Chiefs seems essential if the Dolphins want to keep their chances at getting the No. 1 seed in the AFC alive.
As for Kansas City, they’re coming off their second loss of the season after falling 24-9 in a weird contest against the rival Denver Broncos.
The Chiefs will be looking to get back on track on Sunday, but will Miami be able to prevent that from happening?
