The Pittsburgh Steelers moved on from offensive coordinator Matt Canada midway through the 2023 season and are now looking for his full-time replacement in 2024.
It’s a role that will have huge ramifications on the development of soon-to-be third-year quarterback Kenny Pickett, though his standing as the team’s starter could be in doubt after Mason Rudolph led Pittsburgh to the playoffs at the end of the season.
While no names have been linked to the Steelers yet, head coach Mike Tomlin reportedly wants to hire someone who’s been an offensive coordinator in the past (via Ari Meirov).

This is a critical moment both in Tomlin’s and Pickett’s respective careers, as Tomlin has one year left on his contract and the Steelers will need to make a decision on Pickett’s future after the 2024 season.
Tomlin has finished with a winning season every year he’s been the Steelers’ head coach, but he hasn’t won a playoff game since 2016.
Pickett, meanwhile, hasn’t really progressed to a high level offensively despite a stable of quality skill position players around him.
The Steelers are at risk of becoming the worst team in the AFC North with the Baltimore Ravens looking like Super Bowl contenders and the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals ascending in recent years.
A new offensive coordinator might not change any of this, but some fresh ideas and new perspectives could certainly help a Steelers team that hasn’t found any recent postseason success since Ben Roethlisberger retired.
