Every offseason in MLB there are managerial openings.
No one likes to see a manager lose their job, but it is a common part of the game.
One manager who is in an interesting situation is Bob Melvin of the San Diego Padres.
Even though he is still under contract in San Diego, the Padres front office granted him the opportunity to meet with the San Francisco Giants.
The Padres and Giants are division rivals, so this is not a move San Diego would make if they were not ready to move on.
There seems to be a very good chance that Melvin will take over as manager in San Francisco.
According to Bob Nightengale, even the Padres are expecting Melvin to leave.
But they have found two new managerial candidates, Ryan Flaherty and Mike Shildt.
Ryan Flaherty and Mike Shildt are the top two candidates to replace Bob Melvin as the Padres manager once he is hired by the San Francisco Giants.

Both Flaherty and Shildt are working for the Padres.
Flaherty is the bench coach and Shildt is the team’s Senior Advisor to Player Development.
San Diego was one of the most disappointing teams in baseball this season.
They made the NLCS in 2022 and followed that up by missing the playoffs this year.
Despite having a loaded roster, the team never seemed to play up to their potential.
Many Padres fans are looking for someone to blame for their shortcomings and it seems like Melvin is the easy target.
Melvin had a long tenure of success while managing the Oakland Athletics.
Even though the A’s were not the most talented teams, he always did a good job with them.
The Giants do not have a strong roster, but the right manager could turn them into a playoff contender.
