NFL teams have been extremely busy throughout the offseason thus far.
They have wasted no time hiring and firing new head coaches and coordinators, hoping to snatch up the best possible candidates.
The Los Angeles Chargers recently added Jesse Minter to their staff, hoping he can make a big impact as their new defensive coordinator.
Minter has been a coach in some capacity since 2006, spending time in both the NCAA and the NFL.
His most recent role was with the University of Michigan as their DC and joins Jim Harbaugh to try and build up this team.
The Chargers have several key roster pieces for Minter to work with out of the gates, but he identified one key player as their cornerstone.
Minter recently called Derwin James a “matchup piece” in a recent conversation with reporters, according to Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper.

James has been one of the NFL’s best safeties for several years, but in Minter’s system, he could be utilized in an even bigger capacity.
Minter called him a “versatile” player, one that can move around on the field and make a difference in whatever role he is called to partake in.
If James can help inspire the rest of the defense, the ceiling for the Chargers should skyrocket in 2024.
Justin Herbert is slated to be back in full health, which should mean good things for their offense.
It’ll be tough to overtake the Kansas City Chiefs for the AFC West title, but if all goes according to plan for the Chargers, they could be the team to get it done.
