The New York Mets are one team that needs to make some changes this offseason.
In 2022, they won 101 games.
This season, they were only able to win 74.
The first move of the offseason was to move on from manager Buck Showalter.
It may not be fair, but both Showalter and the Mets decided to part mutually.
Someone had to fall on the sword for this season and it appears to be their manager.
One player who continues to produce despite the team’s success is Pete Alonso.
The All-Star first baseman had another strong year including 46 home runs and 118 RBI.
He did his part to keep the Mets afloat this year.
Still, there have been some rumors surfacing that the Mets could move Alonso this offseason.
He is set for a new contract and it is uncertain if the Mets will pay him.
According to Tim Healey, new team executive David Stearns said: “I expect Pete to be the Opening Day first baseman next year.”

It would be smart of the Mets to hold onto Alonso for two reasons.
One is that not many players in baseball can match his power production.
He is an elite power hitter who has never hit under 37 home runs in a full season.
Also, he has never driven in fewer than 97 runs.
Second, Alonso plays every day.
Having someone you can count on to be in the lineup consistently is huge.
Alonso has never played fewer than 152 games in a full season.
He is a difference-making player, and someone the Mets should be focused on bringing back.
