The Carolina Panthers have made a lot of roster changes to this point in the offseason.
After their 2-15 record in 2023, the Panthers are trying to do everything possible to build a great team around Bryce Young.
They have already added many veteran players, but it appears they are not done.
According to reporter Joe Person, the Panthers are trying to get Stephon Gilmore back on their roster.
Panthers have reached out to free agent CB Stephon Gilmore about a possible return to Charlotte, per league source.
Gilmore, who went to same HS as Jadeveon Clowney, made Pro Bowl w/ CAR in 2021 and has continued to play well into his 30s.— Joe Person (@josephperson) March 26, 2024
Person also noted that Gilmore made the Pro Bowl as a Panther in 2021, and while he is in his 30s, he is still playing well enough to be a meaningful contributor.
Gilmore played for the Dallas Cowboys last year, but given his status as a free agent, it remains to be seen what team he would most like to play for.
The Panthers present an exciting opportunity for a player like Gilmore.
They are a young, emerging team hoping to take the next step, and Gilmore could help them get there.
He could also help mentor some of the more inexperienced DBs on the roster, giving them wisdom from his years of experience in the league.
This team has a lot of building blocks, but they’re looking for someone to help put the pieces together.
Gilmore could certainly be that person, especially if he’s willing to be a mentor to his teammates.
Whether they sign Gilmore or not, it will be interesting to see how the 2024 season shakes out for the Panthers, given their 2023 record.
