The NFL teams that are usually “open for business” are the ones that are in a time of rebuilding and transitioning.
This is exactly the case for the New England Patriots.
After moving on from arguably the greatest coach of all time in Bill Belichick and hiring former inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo as head coach, the team’s biggest priority is drafting a franchise quarterback.
Remember, New England traded former first-round quarterback Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason.
Patriots Director of Scouting Eliot Wolf told the New England media that the team is “open for business” when it comes to the NFL Draft next week.

Wolf also said that New England is open to moving either up or down in the draft order.
The team currently sits at the third overall pick.
With USC’s Caleb Williams most likely going to the Bears, that could leave New England with an opportunity to select either Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, All-ACC signal-caller Drake Maye, or even Washington’s Michael Penix Jr.
But perhaps they could decide to trade back and grab someone like Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy or Oregon’s Bo Nix.
Wolf also made a point of saying, “the more picks we have, the better.”
With everything on the table, the Pats aren’t likely to stand pat.
With needs at quarterback, left tackle, and wide receiver and considering the fact that this is going to be an offensive-heavy draft, the Patriots will look to build on their eight total draft picks.
