News recently came to light about the Atlanta Falcons tampering with multiple players this offseason.
One of those players was four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins, who the team eventually signed to a four-year deal worth $180 million.
After violating the league’s tampering policy, the NFL has fined the Falcons $250,000 and has docked them a 2025 fifth-round draft choice.
ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio is seemingly very unhappy about the punishment.
“The NFL took only a fifth-round pick and imposed minimal fines on the Falcons for tampering with THREE DIFFERENT PLAYERS. Message to league = tamper away,” Florio tweeted out.

Essentially, what Florio is saying is that losing a quarter of million dollars and a late-round draft pick means nothing to certain NFL teams nowadays.
They can do whatever they want with their punishment virtually not hurting them at all.
Now, what happens if Cousins brings the Falcons a Super Bowl this season?
How big is that acquisition then?
Any team would give up $250,000 and a late-round draft pick for a Super Bowl in a heartbeat.
People like Florio believe the league should have come down with a swifter punishment.
The team also violated the tampering rules by signing wide receiver Rondale Moore and tight end Charlie Woerner.
These are all impactful pieces that Atlanta signed and should play a big role on the team in 2024.
The NFL deciding not to punish the Falcons in a more severe way could set a dangerous precedent moving forward.
Teams will do whatever it takes to win.
