For years, NFL players have urged the league to do something about hip-drop tackles.
Now, it seems like they’re finally ready to take a step in that direction.
However, Judy Battista of NFL Media reports that the Competition Committee is still trying to figure out or put together an objective definition of what a hip-drop tackle consists of.
On hip drop tackles, the committee is still working on getting the right language for a rule, but a source said they are “aligned” on getting it out of the game.

The report claims that the committee is ‘aligned’ on eliminating this play.
A hip-drop tackle happens whenever a players drop their hips lower than the ball carrier’s waist level, potentially causing injury
The league is reportedly working on figuring out the precise language for a rule that would ban these dangerous tackles.
That’s where the issue might be, as both the players and referees need to come to terms with the definition and the rule needs to be enforced consistently to actually make a difference.
The Competition Committee will continue to dig deep and take a big look at this matter ahead of next month’s league meetings.
They’ll come up with a proposal to make sure to ban this play, but the chances of the ban getting the 24 votes they need might not be a sure thing.
