Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is headed to his fourth Super Bowl in five seasons and could win his third Lombardi Trophy if he can beat the San Francisco 49ers.
That in and of itself is a huge accomplishment for any quarterback, but Mahomes is trending toward a level of NFL lore few players have ever dreamed of reaching.
Mahomes still has a long way to go, but former NFL linebacker Jaylon Smith told Kay Adams on FanDuel TV’s “Up & Adams” show that the Chiefs quarterback could become as good as legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady.
“He’s approaching Tom Brady level,” Smith said. “It’s amazing to see his success at such a young age. None of us thought this would ever be replicated.”

Brady won seven Super Bowl rings during his NFL career, including six with the New England Patriots, and three NFL MVP awards.
Mahomes – so far, anyway – only has two titles but already has two MVPs.
He could grab his third ring in essentially the same time it took Brady to get three, which paves the way for Mahomes to be on track to reach the level Smith is talking about.
Mahomes did so this year with statistically the worst offense he’s played with in the NFL, but he also had the No. 2 scoring defense by his side in close games – like in the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens.
He’ll need to take down the 49ers first, though.
