Lamar Jackson is entrenched in the MVP conversation for the second time in his career.
He won the award in 2019, and while the votes for this season haven’t been officially announced, he is once again the front-runner.
Jackson has gotten to this place while maintaining his ability to rush efficiently but has also greatly improved his passing numbers.
Despite being lauded throughout the year for his passing, something still seems to be bothering him.
Jackson recently spoke with Tom Brady on his “Let’s Go” podcast, where Brady asked about the conversation about Jackson being a glorified running back.
He responded, “To be honest, I definitely do still have that chip on my shoulder.”
Tom Brady asked Lamar Jackson if he still has a chip on his shoulder from people saying he should be a running back:
“To be honest, I definitely do still have that chip on my shoulder. I don’t think I’ve accomplished what I wanted to yet, so that chip is still there. I want that…

Jackson indicated that this is due to not having “accomplished what I wanted to yet.”
He seems to want to take home the Super Bowl trophy this year, and now, only three wins stand in his way.
If he and the Ravens can find a way to make it to the title game and win, Jackson believes the narrative could change for him.
He wouldn’t just be a running back who happens to have the ability to throw the ball but a genuine quarterback who can lead his team when it matters most.
Playoff wins are something that Jackson doesn’t have a lot of on his resume.
If he changes that to close out the 2023 NFL season, the public narrative will likely turn quickly on Jackson, as fans would probably give him the props he deserves.
