The NFL season now consists of 17 regular-season games, but it seems like that’s not enough.
For weeks, people have talked about the possibility of adding another game to the regular season, with players stating that it would take at least a second BYE week to make things work.
Nonetheless, even if that were to be the case, it seems like it won’t be an easy fight for Commissioner Roger Goodell.
At least, that’s what one can get from what Indianapolis Colts center Ryan Kelly, who’s also a vice president on the NFLPA’s executive committee, had to say.
Talking to ESPN, the veteran offensive lineman made it loud and clear that the union has no intention whatsoever of adding an 18th regular-season game, stating that it may sound great, but it’s just too much.
Colts NFLPA representative Ryan Kelly said 18 games would be “too many.”

The league’s move to 17 games was met with resistance, pushback, and criticism.
Eventually, they managed to pass it during the latest CBA negotiations, but with just 51.5% of players voting in favor.
The Commissioner didn’t put a timetable on the potential expansion of the regular-season, but with the current CBA set to expire in 2030, it would be tough to envision that happening any time soon.
Still, the current CBA could be renegotiated or amended, assuming the Commissioner manages to convince the players to change their stance.
At the end of the day, this would only translate into even more money for the players.
But with the current state of the market, it’ll be up to them to draw the line and wonder how much is enough.
