Over the past two years, much has been said about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and whether he’s the real deal.
Many people, like former NFL MVP quarterback Cam Newton, believe he’s nothing more than a game manager in a good system run by head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Even though the 49ers have done even better than they did last year by advancing to the Super Bowl to take on the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs on February 11, the critics are still in full force when it comes to Purdy and how good they believe the second-year quarterback really is at this point.
On Thursday’s “First Things First,” Nick Wright of FOX Sports agreed with Newton and claimed that nine players on the 49ers roster are better than the MVP candidate, via Awful Announcing’s Twitter account.
“That’s not unfair,” Wright said about Newton’s claim.

Nine players on San Francisco’s roster being better than Purdy may be a stretch because only one of those players has ever been an MVP candidate, with superstar running back Christian McCaffrey in the running this season.
The rest of the names are talented players, with a few being game-changers like Trent Williams, Deebo Samuel, Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, and possibly George Kittle, but to say there are nine players better than Purdy or make more of an impact is tough for many fans to agree with.
With Purdy putting on a show in the NFC Championship Game against the Detroit Lions, he proved he could get the job done in big moments, and he will be put to the test once again in the Super Bowl, going head-to-head with superstar Patrick Mahomes.
