The NFL is a short-memory league.
With everything happening so fast, you can be an MVP candidate one day and an overrated system player the very next one.
That has been the narrative around Brock Purdy lately.
The former Mr. Irrelevant went from being the ultimate feelgood story to just a system quarterback playing for the most stacked team in the league, at least according to Nick Wright.
Following the loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Wright took a big shot at Purdy by stating that as soon as he misses one of his ‘Avengers,’ he gets outplayed by P.J. Walker and Kirk Cousins.
He also retweeted a clip from a couple of weeks ago in which he gave Purdy just 5% of the credit for the Niners’ hot start to the season, stating that he was just a guy in the most favorable system and situation possible.
Some of those Avengers miss the game and all of a sudden you’re getting outplayed by PJ Walker & Kirk Cousins.

That could be a fair assessment, except by the fact that P.J. Walker by no means outplayed him, and that Purdy wasn’t to blame for the fact that his kicker missed a game-winning field goal.
He did throw a game-losing interception vs. the Vikings and wasn’t at his best, but he wasn’t the one who allowed a 60+ yard touchdown on third down with 16 seconds left in the first half or the one who — again — missed a field goal early in the game.
If we can’t give him all the credit, then, by the same logic, we can put all the blame on him.
Purdy has benefited from his system, his coach, and his supporting cast; so has Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, and we all saw how that ended for them.
Also, why should we take a shot at a QB for playing with good players?
Who was the last quarterback to win on his own?
Has that ever even happened?
