The Kansas City Chiefs appear to be wobbly, and even though they have a 9-5 record, people have been focusing on why they haven’t looked as potent as they have in past seasons.
The numbers for superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes are down somewhat, and the team has a lack of reliable threats at the wide receiver position.
Yet somehow, the Chiefs are 10th in points per game and seventh in total yards, as well as third in passing yards and passing touchdowns, which makes their overall situation on offense a curiosity.
It is something Nick Wright pointed out on “What Wright? with Nick Wright” as an argument that perhaps the Chiefs aren’t in the type of trouble some think they’re in.
Is the Chiefs offense actually broken?

The numbers, however, are misleading, as Kansas City has had trouble winning close games this year, especially against good teams.
They lost by one point in Week 1 to the Detroit Lions, lost by four points to the Philadelphia Eagles in a Week 11 Super Bowl rematch, and fell by three points to the Buffalo Bills in Week 14.
Each time, Kansas City’s lack of a real threat at wide receiver was obvious, and it seemingly took star tight end Travis Kelce out of the game, as opponents have been able to double-team him without paying the price.
In past years, Tyreek Hill would’ve likely made big catches and plays in crunch time and on third downs, and last season, JuJu Smith-Schuster was productive enough for the team to win its second Super Bowl championship in four seasons.
The Chiefs could still conceivably get back to the Super Bowl this winter, but their lack of weapons other than Kelce would likely hurt them against a team like the Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, or Dallas Cowboys.
