The Carolina Panthers have quietly been looking for their next head coach.
They fired Frank Reich midway through his first season with the team.
And while not many teams would’ve fired a coach with a rookie QB before even finishing the campaign, Reich drew plenty of league-wide criticism, and the Panthers’ ownership isn’t exactly known for its patience.
They have now hired Dan Morgan to serve as their new General Manager, but they still have the HC vacancy.
With that in mind, Steve Reed of the Associated Press shared an email sent to him by Bookies.com, which shows that Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales is currently the odds-on favorite to get the job.
Canales reportedly has +350 odds to land the gig, which implies a 22.2% chance.
For what it’s worth, these are now the odds for the Panthers next coach from https://t.co/tJapKRzNeI, which I received an email from. Has Canales as the frontrunner. https://t.co/Ctnh0xU9cD pic.twitter.com/g7GQw7GnSM

Canales has done an outstanding job in charge of the Bucs’ offense, helping Baker Mayfield put up similar numbers that Tom Brady had in his final season with the team and running one of the best passing games in the business.
The Panthers might hope he could work that same magic with struggling first-year QB Bryce Young, but it won’t be easy to lure him to a divisional rival, especially considering how far behind they are in terms of roster-building and the fact that they won’t even have a first-round pick this season.
