After the Seattle Seahawks and former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald came to terms of a six-year deal on Wednesday to become Pete Carroll’s successor, there is only one head coaching vacancy left in the NFL.
The Washington Commanders are still looking for Ron Rivera’s successor in the nation’s capital, with the team doing their due diligence to find the right person for the job, even though there are plenty of intriguing candidates out there.
As of right now, there are four big-name candidates left on the open market that would be an ideal head coach for the Commanders moving forward, with the team and its new ownership group set on turning the struggling franchise around as quickly as possible.
Bill Belichick, Eric Bieniemy, Dan Quinn, and Mike Vrabel are still looking for work in the NFL, and each one would be an upgrade for the Commanders if hired by the team.
According to BetOnline.ag, Vrabel is the favorite among these four candidates for the head coaching job in Washington with +190 odds, via Jaime Eisner of The Draft Network.

Mike Vrabel (+190)
Dan Quinn (+600)
Eric Bieniemy (16/1)

Once the rumors started circulating about Belichick potentially being fired by the New England Patriots, the legendary head coach was linked to the Commanders, as many believed he’d be a great fit for the team.
However, the speculation died down quickly once Belichick officially hit the open market, as it is looking more and more likely that he’ll have to wait until next year to resume his coaching career in the NFL.
As for Vrabel, who won three Super Bowls while playing for Belichick in New England, the Tennessee Titans surprised everyone by letting him go, as he’s widely considered to be one of the best head coaches in the league.
At this point, the Commanders can’t really go wrong if they pick any of the four listed above.
