Tim Federowicz Takes Helm at Norfolk Tides
Former Seattle Mariners Triple-A Manager Tim Federowicz has embarked on a new chapter in his coaching career by transitioning to the Baltimore Orioles organization to lead their Triple-A affiliate, the Norfolk Tides.
Federowicz’s Impressive Path
Tim Federowicz, a seasoned figure in baseball, previously managed the Mariners’ Triple-A team, the Tacoma Rainiers, during the 2022 season. His experience extends beyond managerial roles, having served as the manager for Triple-A Toledo (DET) in 2024 and a major league catching coach for the Detroit Tigers in 2023.
A Glance at Federowicz’s Career
Federowicz retired from professional play in 2021 after a remarkable 13-year journey that saw him don the jerseys of several major league teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, and Houston Astros. Despite a modest .192 batting average as a player, Federowicz played 163 games and smashed 12 home runs during his major league tenure.
Transition in Tacoma
Following Federowicz’s departure, the managerial reins of the Tacoma Rainiers have been passed to John Russell, who will lead the team into the upcoming season. The Mariners are gearing up for spring training, with pitchers and catchers scheduled to report to Peoria, Ariz., on February 12, paving the way for the first spring training game on February 21.
Mariners’ Offseason Challenges
The Mariners are on the quest to strengthen their roster after narrowly missing the playoffs with an 85-77 record last season. The team faces pivotal decisions at second base and third base, with the clock ticking as the offseason dwindles and viable options diminish.
Looking Ahead
As the Mariners brace for the upcoming season, with Opening Day set for March 27 at T-Mobile Park, the team aims to address key positional gaps and build on the momentum of their recent campaigns to secure a spot in the postseason.
