Release Announcement
The Chicago White Sox have decided to part ways with pitcher Dan Altavilla. Signed last December on a minor league deal with a non-roster invitation to spring training, Altavilla’s tenure with the team was short-lived, despite a promising showing during camp.
Spring Training Impact
During spring training, Altavilla appeared in 10 games out of the bullpen, recording a 2.79 ERA across 9.2 innings. In these sessions, he allowed four hits and three earned runs, with two home runs and two hit batsmen charged to his record. Contributing a total of four walks and 11 strikeouts, his efforts were reflected in an impressive 0.83 WHIP and a .121 batting average against over his outings.
Professional Trajectory
Before his brief stint with the White Sox, Altavilla’s career included appearances with several major league organizations. He made his MLB debut in 2016 with Seattle and later spent time with Boston and San Diego. More recently, while with the Royals organization in 2024, he pitched 3.2 innings in the majors and spent the majority of the season with the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers, where he maintained a 3.51 ERA in 41 innings.
Looking Ahead
Despite a performance during spring training that showcased his potential and maintained his high aspirations for the upcoming season, Altavilla now faces an uncertain future. His journey through various organizations and consistent display of talent suggest that his career trajectory still holds room for growth and opportunity beyond his time with the White Sox.
