Roster Reshuffle in Japan
During their final days in Japan, the Dodgers made a series of tactical roster moves to fine-tune their lineup for spring training and prepare for domestic Opening Day. The adjustments came as the team sought to balance immediate competitive needs with long-term strategic planning.
Key Player Adjustments
Right-handed pitcher Matt Sauer was added to both the 40-man and active rosters ahead of the series finale. To accommodate Sauer’s inclusion, left-handed pitcher Justin Wrobleski was optioned to Triple-A, ensuring the active roster remained within its limits. Additionally, left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw was moved to the 60-day injured list. With Kershaw recovering from two offseason surgeries, his return is projected for late May at the earliest, making the move a deliberate step in managing the roster effectively.
Follow-Up Moves Post-Tokyo Series
After concluding the second game of the Tokyo Series, the Dodgers opted to send Sauer along with outfielder James Outman and right-handed pitcher Landon Knack to Triple-A Oklahoma City. None of these players appeared in the Tokyo Series, and the decision allowed the team to maintain a focused roster while preparing for upcoming additions. The transition also reduced the position player roster from 14 to 13 as Outman’s move did not prompt a direct replacement.
Preparing for Opening Day
As the Dodgers look ahead to domestic Opening Day on March 27, the team is strategically allocating roster spots. With three starters already designated on the exempt list—right-handed pitchers Tyler Glasnow and Dustin May, along with left-handed pitcher Blake Snell—the organization is making the necessary adjustments to integrate these players into their regular rotation. This roster consolidation ensures that the team is well-positioned to compete when the season begins.
