Pitching Roster
The team’s starting rotation features a mix of promising talent and experienced arms. Reigning National League Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes leads the rotation alongside Mitch Keller and Carmen Mlodzinski, who made the transition from the bullpen. Complementing them are two left-handed starters: Bailey Falter and Andrew Heaney, who secured a one-year deal worth $5.25 million with performance incentives during the offseason.
Bullpen and Additional Arms
The bullpen is locked in with seasoned right-handers David Bednar, Colin Holderman, and Dennis Santana, who will continue to provide stability on the mound. Adding further depth, right-hander Justin Lawrence was acquired off waivers, while lefties Tim Mayza, Joey Wentz, and Caleb Ferguson round out the pitching staff. Wentz remains on the roster following his promising performance after a waiver acquisition, and Ferguson inked a one-year, $3 million deal after spending time with two prominent organizations last season. Mayza brings World Series experience from his stint with a major league powerhouse.
Defensive Alignment
Behind the plate, Joey Bart is slated to start at catcher while Rodríguez makes a comeback after missing most of last season due to a winter ball injury and subsequent reconstructive surgery on his ulnar collateral ligament. The infield is structured with Jared Triolo playing a flexible role that includes first base duties, Ke’Bryan Hayes manning third, Nick Gonzalez at second, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa taking charge at shortstop. Adam Frazier also contributes to the infield’s versatility.
Outfield and Veteran Presence
In the outfield, veteran Andrew McCutchen, secured with a one-year, $4 million deal as a free agent, is expected to anchor the left field. The outfield roster is further strengthened by Tommy Pham, Oneil Cruz, Bryan Reynolds, Ji Hwan Bae, and Jack Suwinski. Cruz aims to establish himself in center field as Reynolds steps in on the right, while Bae and Suwinski provide valuable depth for the demanding season ahead.
As the season opener approaches, the roster reflects a balanced blend of youthful promise and seasoned veterans, positioning the team for a competitive campaign right from the first pitch.
