Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame
The Seattle Mariners have a rich history of iconic players who have left an indelible mark on the franchise, both on and off the field. From the Kingdome to T-Mobile Park, formerly known as Safeco Field, the Mariners have seen legends grace their roster. Two such players, Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez, have achieved immortality in baseball history, with their retired numbers proudly displayed at T-Mobile Park. These two luminaries, with their No. 24 and No. 11 respectively, have earned their place in the Mariners’ pantheon, their names enshrined in plaques adorning the left-center field corner.
Legends of Seattle
Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez stand as the only two players in Seattle Mariners history to have their uniform numbers officially retired, a distinction shared only with the legendary Jackie Robinson, whose No. 42 is universally retired across all 30 MLB clubs. Griffey Jr. and Martinez’s numbers were retired in recognition of their illustrious careers and their well-deserved inductions into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Griffey Jr. received his immortalization in 2016, while Martinez was honored with a plaque in Cooperstown, New York, in 2019, cementing their legacies as Mariners greats.
Welcoming a New Legend
Joining the esteemed company of Griffey Jr. and Martinez this season is another Mariners icon, Ichiro Suzuki. The announcement of Ichiro’s induction into the Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame marks a significant moment in the franchise’s history, as the legendary outfielder takes his place among the pantheon of Mariners greats. Ichiro’s impact on the game, both in Seattle and beyond, solidifies his status as a baseball legend, earning him a well-deserved place alongside the Mariners’ most revered figures.
