Kevin Durant, the renowned Phoenix Suns star, was disheartened to learn about the season-ending setback for one of basketball’s emerging talents, Victor Wembanyama. The news broke out just as the Suns were about to face off against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday, following the All-Star break.
Wembanyama, touted as one of the brightest young players in the NBA, was initially sidelined due to illness. However, in a shocking turn of events, doctors discovered a blood clot in his shoulder, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. This sudden revelation left the basketball world in a state of disbelief, especially as the Suns were already grappling with a surprising loss to the Spurs.
Despite the somber atmosphere, Durant took the opportunity to uplift the young star’s spirits with his encouraging words. “I’m thinking about Vic. I’m sure the entire basketball world is thinking about it. But knowing him, with his strong mindset, he’s going to make the most of this situation,” Durant shared. Although Durant admitted to not knowing Wembanyama well, he expressed his faith in the young player’s resilience, urging him to utilize this hiatus to explore new horizons, like indulging in hobbies or reading, and to return to the court with renewed focus when the time comes.
The condition plaguing Wembanyama, known as Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), is marked by the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein, typically in the lower leg, thigh, pelvis, or arm, as per WebMD. The condition can manifest as swelling and pain, although it sometimes presents no noticeable symptoms. The gravest risk associated with DVT is the potential for the clot to dislodge and block the blood flow to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism.
Despite the distressing reality of losing one of their key players, the San Antonio Spurs management has expressed confidence in Wembanyama’s recovery and are hopeful about his return for the next season.
