Defensive Line Bolstered by Fresh Talent
The Pittsburgh Steelers have added depth to their defensive line by signing defensive tackle Esezi Otomewo to a one-year contract. This signing comes as the team strengthens its roster with new faces at the position alongside recent additions Daniel Ekuale and Isaiahh Loudermilk. The move reflects the club’s commitment to infusing fresh energy into its defensive strategy.
Journey from College to the NFL
Otomewo developed his foundational skills during his collegiate career at Minnesota. In his first season in 2018, he played in 13 games, recording 14 tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble. His performance improved in 2019, as he again appeared in 13 contests, amassing 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks. During the 2020 season, he managed to notch a sack in seven games, and his final collegiate year in 2021 saw him accumulate 30 tackles along with three quarterback takedowns.
Transition and NFL Experience
The Minnesota Vikings selected Otomewo in the fifth round of the NFL Draft, making him the 165th overall pick. He played in five games during his rookie season, recording five tackles before being released in August 2023. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad. Although he did not see game action during his sophomore season, the following year he appeared in four games, starting two of them, and contributed with four tackles and a fumble recovery. The move to Pittsburgh represents an opportunity for Otomewo to further develop his game and make an impact on the field.
