Rams’ Cooper Kupp: McVay’s Uncertainty Amid Trade Talks
Cooper Kupp, resembling a young Obi-Wan Kenobi, finds himself at the center of trade discussions within the Rams organization. Head coach Sean McVay, known for his cautious approach, refrains from definitive statements regarding Kupp’s future with the team. When questioned about the decision to entertain trade offers and the possibility of Kupp staying if negotiations fall through, McVay tactfully responded, emphasizing the team’s strategic considerations.
“We just felt like that was the best direction for our football team … in terms of putting together the whole puzzle,” McVay explained, as reported by Adam Grosbard of the Los Angeles Daily News. “There’s obviously a lot of layers to that. I would never speak in absolutes. But I do think, let’s gather all the information. We’ll take it a day at a time.”
Amidst the uncertainty, the Rams have not engaged in discussions regarding a contract restructure with Cooper Kupp. With nine days remaining before any potential trade can be finalized, as the new league year commences on March 12, Kupp’s $12.5 million base salary looms large in the decision-making process. The delicate balance between trade talks and Kupp’s future with the Rams remains a focal point as the team navigates this critical juncture.
