Jude Bellingham, the talented Englishman, has been announced as one of the 11 nominees for The Best FIFA Men’s Player award for 2024. This prestigious prize recognizes players for their outstanding achievements throughout the calendar year, distinguishing it from the Ballon d’Or which is awarded based on a single season. Established in its current form since 2016, this accolade was previously known as the FIFA World Player of the Year. It is worth noting that winning both awards is not always common due to their different timeframes.
Among those vying for The Best gong are Manchester City stars Rodri and Erling Haaland. Rodri, who recently clinched the Ballon d’Or last month, will be seeking to add another accolade to his collection. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi, who triumphed in the past two editions of this coveted award, is also in contention. However, surprisingly absent from the list is his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
The nomination list includes a strong representation from Real Madrid with six players: Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, Dani Carvajal, Federico Valverde, and Toni Kroos (now retired). However, it remains uncertain if they will attend the ceremony after skipping the Ballon d’Or gala held in October.
In addition to recognizing outfield players and managers, there is a separate category dedicated to goalkeepers. Notably missing from this list is Brazil’s Alisson Becker. On the other hand, three Premier League goalkeepers have received nominations: Ederson of Manchester City, Emi Martinez representing Aston Villa, and David Raya playing for Brentford.
In terms of managerial recognition at The Best awards ceremony, five individuals are vying for the prestigious title. These include Xabi Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen, Carlo Ancelotti representing Real Madrid, Luis de la Fuente as Spain’s representative, Pep Guardiola, and Lionel Scaloni of Argentina.
It is worth highlighting that Rodri’s recent Ballon d’Or triumph made history by becoming the first Premier League player since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008 to lift the trophy. The ceremony was marred by controversy as Real Madrid boycotted the event due to their dissatisfaction with the results. Neither Vinicius Junior nor Jude Bellingham, who finished third, were present in France when the award was announced.
Despite suffering an ACL injury in September that effectively ended his season prematurely, Rodri proudly embraced his victory. His absence from playing football did not dampen his spirits as he celebrated his remarkable achievement.
As we eagerly await The Best FIFA Men’s Player award ceremony for 2024, it promises to be an exciting event filled with anticipation and recognition for the outstanding performances displayed throughout the year. Will Jude Bellingham secure this prestigious accolade or will one of his fellow nominees claim the title? Only time will tell.
