The Thursday Night Football game between the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers shaped up as many fans predicted.
There was only one offensive touchdown scored in this game, but the rest of the points came off of field goals or a special teams touchdown.
Panthers placekicker Eddy Pineiro was called upon a lot in this game, hoping to keep the Panthers in it.
While he did make two field goals in this one, he had an opportunity to tie the game in the fourth quarter with a 59-yarder.
He ended up missing the kick, and the Panthers went on to lose, 16-13.
Frank Reich discussed this decision in a postgame press conference, which was shared via Ari Meirov.
Frank Reich says it was his call to kick a 59-yard FG despite there being mixed opinions on his staff. He believes a 4th-and-10 conversion has a 30% chance of success, while a 59-yard FG has a higher probability.

As Reich discussed, this decision fell squarely on his shoulders.
He believed that his team had a much better chance of making this field goal than converting a first down on fourth and ten.
This has been described as a “horrible” sequence of events by Meirov, and many other analysts felt similarly.
With this loss, the Panthers fell to 1-8 on the year, tying them with the Arizona Cardinals for the worst record in the league.
Reich has gotten a lot of criticism throughout his time as a head coach, and this field goal decision doesn’t help his cause.
Regardless of the decision Reich made, the Panthers once again found themselves in a difficult situation at the end of the game.
It will be interesting to see what direction the organization goes at head coach in 2024, especially if current trends continue.
